Part of a new generation of artists, poolfire grew up Latin-American in Boston. He was exposed to two different worlds of music: the Latin culture of his father’s family in Guatemala, and the world of alternative rock in the States. From an early age, he would buy burned CDs on the street with his dad. “There were these mixtapes they called 'La Bomba'. I was really into those, it would be like the 15 hottest reggaeton tracks at the time and some other stuff. I also got a burned version of Green Day’s American Idiot and Elvis Presley’s Greatest Hits. I remember the first time I played American Idiot in the car. I was so stressed about the swear words in it, I thought my mom would take the CD away.”
